Who are we?

Our beginning

The advent of the gospel to our village on 12th November 1941 marked a paradigm shift in the destiny of our people. This momentous event led to the establishment of a L.P school by Mr. Bendangniba (pastor) under the construction of the American Baptist Foreign Mission stationed at Impur. It was from this humble yet firm beginning that eventually produced many enthusiastic and foresighted students, who with the knowledge acquired began to have a clearer perspective as well as foresight to alleviate the prospects of the people. The pioneer students often engaged with the village elders and the church leaders to discuss on the socio-economic conditions prevalent during those times and worked cohesively to mitigate and uplift the living condition of the people.

The thoughts of the formation of a student union came into the minds of those pioneer students around the year 1939-40. Henceforth, as per the resolution they adopted in 1940, the then student leaders in consultation with the church leaders and in collaboration with the student youths formally organised a program on the 23th of December (Tuesday)1941, in the name of the formation of the Changdang Student’s Union with the Motto, ‘Unity and Progress’.
